The Renewal Course

If you have taken a Mature Driver Course from us or another DMV-licensed company, you can take the 4.0-hour Renewal course. It is self-paced and you can start and stop as many times as you'd like, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If you took the Initial or a Renewal course more than 4 years ago, you must re-take the Initial course.

California DMV License #MDIP000069

Our Mature Driver Tune-Up (Online) courses are approved and licensed by the California DMV.  Once you complete our course, we email you an individually numbered, Official California DMV Mature Driver Improvement Certificate.

You do not need to inform the DMV of your course completion. You just provide your certificate to your insurance company to receive your auto insurance discount.

California State-Mandated Senior Discount

According to California State insurance law (Insurance Code Section 11628.3) your auto insurance company must provide drivers 55 years old or older who have a valid California driver's license with a discount on their auto insurance.

Contact your insurance company to learn how much of a discount you will receive over three years.

If you have never taken a Mature Driver Improvement Course you must take the 'Initial' 6.5 hour Course.

You can take the shorter 4-hour 'Renewal' course if you have already taken a Mature Driver Course and your current certificate has not expired more than 12 months ago, i.e., your certificate is not dated more than 4 years ago.

If you previously took a Mature Driver Improvement course from another school and your certificate has not expired, you can take our 'Renewal' course.

If you took a Mature Driver Improvement Course for another state, check with your insurance company to determine if you qualify to take our California 'Renewal' course.

Are Mature Driver and Safe Driver Courses the Same?

Mature Driver Improvement Program is the official name for California DMV's Senior (55+) Auto Insurance Safety and Insurance Discount Program.  The Official DMV Certificate you receive after completing a Mature Driver Improvement course qualifies you for your insurance company's Defensive Driver or Safe Driver Discount.

You don't have to pass or take any tests. Just complete all course lessons to earn your completion certificate.

There is a 100% optional test at the end for people who like to test what they have learned. Taking it is not required to receive your certificate.

Just Listen and Watch

Just listen to or read the course material and watch the videos to earn your Certificate.

People 55 years of age or older who have a valid California driver's license can take our courses.

Some insurance companies (AAA), give discounts to people 50 or older. Contact your auto insurance agent to find out if you qualify and learn how much you will save.

The Californa DMV mandates the following course lengths:

  • Initial Course: 6.6 hours (400 minutes)
  • Renewal Course: 4 hours (240 minutes)

National courses from the AARP and AAA are longer since they must comply with requirements from multiple other states. AARP's Initial Course is 8 hours long, which is 1.5 hours longer than our course!

On average, people save up to 15% a year. The amount of your auto insurance discount will depend on various factors including your insurance company and driving record.

Your discount is good for a period of three years. After three years, you can take the shorter 'Renewal' course to continue your auto insurance discount.

Contact your insurance company to see if you qualify and learn how much you will save.

Take the course on your own schedule. It's easy to stop when you get tired or busy.  Your progress is automatically saved so you start the course where you left off. Because the course isn't timed, and you have unlimited time to finish the course, you don't have to rush or finish it in one sitting!

24/7 Course Access

You get convenient access to the online course 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Because our course doesn't have timers, you can easily skip through the lessons as fast as you can read without having to stop and wait to proceed. Courses from our competitors, i.e., AARP, have timers that make you wait. Life's too short to have to wait! This is one of the reasons why people love our course.

Unlike other courses, we give you unlimited time to complete the course. Take a week, a month, or a year. When you finish is up to you.  Of course, the faster you finish, the sooner you qualify to get your auto insurance discount!

REQUIRED HARDWARED - No Software Installation Required

All you need to take our course is an internet-connected computer or tablet.

While you can take the course using a smartphone, we do not recommend it due to the small screen size.

You don't need to install any software or a mobile app and don't need a printer.

You can even use a combination of different devices, i.e., a computer at work and a tablet at home to finish the course.
