MATURE DRIVER TUNE-UP® COURSES

If you have never taken a Mature Driver Improvement Course you must take the 'Initial' 6.5 hour Course.

You can take the shorter 4-hour 'Renewal' course if you have already taken a Mature Driver Course and your current certificate has not expired more than 12 months ago, i.e., your certificate is not dated more than 4 years ago.

If you previously took a Mature Driver Improvement course from another school and your certificate has not expired, you can take our 'Renewal' course.

If you took a Mature Driver Improvement Course for another state, check with your insurance company to determine if you qualify to take our California 'Renewal' course.

Are Mature Driver and Safe Driver Courses the Same?

Mature Driver Improvement Program is the official name for California DMV's Senior (55+) Auto Insurance Safety and Insurance Discount Program.  The Official DMV Certificate you receive after completing a Mature Driver Improvement course qualifies you for your insurance company's Defensive Driver or Safe Driver Discount.

People 55 years of age or older who have a valid California driver's license can take our courses.

Some insurance companies (AAA), give discounts to people 50 or older. Contact your auto insurance agent to find out if you qualify and learn how much you will save.

The Californa DMV mandates the following course lengths:

• Initial Course: 6.6 hours (400 minutes)
• Renewal Course: 4 hours (240 minutes)

National courses from the AARP and AAA are longer since they must comply with requirements from multiple other states. AARP's Initial Course is 8 hours long, which is 1.5 hours longer than our course!

Your discount is good for a period of three years. After three years, you can take the shorter 'Renewal' course to continue your auto insurance discount.
