What's A Mature Driver Course?
A Mature Driver Course helps improve your confidence behind the wheel by bringing you up-to-date on the latest traffic laws and defensive driving techniques.
According to California State insurance law (Insurance Code Section 11628.3), your auto insurance company must provide you with an auto insurance discount good for a period of 3 years after you complete a Mature Driver Improvement Course like the one at www.maturedrivertuneup.com.
Are Mature Driver and Safe Driver Courses the Same?
Mature Driver Improvement Program is the official name for California DMV's Senior (55+) Auto Insurance Safety and Insurance Discount Program. The Certificate you receive after completing a Mature Driver Improvement course qualifies you for your insurance company's Defensive Driver or Safe Driver Discount.
Who Can Take A California Mature Driver Course?
California drivers who are 55 years old or older (some insurance companies like AAA allow you to take it if you are 50 years old or older) who have a valid California driver’s license can take a mature driver course and qualify for the state-mandated auto insurance discount.
How Much Can I Save On My Auto Insurance?
Drivers who complete our course get up to 15% off their auto insurance and save on average $90 a year. The amount of your discount will depend upon your driving record, insurance company and other factors. Insurance companies can refuse to give you a discount if you have a poor driving record.
You should contact your insurance agent and find out how much you will save prior to taking our course.
Which Course Should I Take?
Initial Course
If you have never taken a Mature Driver Course before, you must take the 6.5-hour Initial course.
Renewal Course
You can take the 4.0-hour Renewal course if you have taken an Initial or Renewal Course from us or another DMV-licensed company within the last four years. If you took a course over four years ago you must retake the Initial course.
You can take our Renewal Course if you took a Mature Driver Course from another California licensed school as long as your certificate is dated less than four years ago.

How Long Is The Course?
Our 'Initial' Mature Driver Tune-Up Course is 6.5 hours long and our 'Renewal' Course is 4 hours long. These lengths meet California DMV’s course requirements. Because there aren’t timers to slow you down, you can finish our course as fast as you can read.
Initial courses from nationwide companies like AARP and AAA are 8 hours long (1.5 hours longer) because they must adhere to the requirements of all 50 states.
Does The Course Have Timers or a Deadline?
No. Unlike courses from the AARP, AAA, and other nationwide companies, our courses DO NOT have annoying timers that make you wait to proceed to the next lesson!

How Does Your Course Compare to the Competition?
Why Is Your Course Shorter Than AARP's and Other Nationwide Providers?

What's The Difference Between a Mature Driver Course and a Defensive Driver Course?
The California DMV officially refers to driver safety courses that offer discounts on auto insurance for drivers aged 55 and older as Mature Driver Improvement Courses. Insurance companies may use different names for these senior discounts, such as defensive driver discount, senior safe driver discount, mature driver discount, and others.
Defensive Driving Courses in California are referred to as Traffic Violator School Courses (Traffic School). These courses are intended to prevent traffic tickets from appearing on your public driving record and are not designed to provide discounts on auto insurance.
